Writing Update: June W1 Edition

This time it’s another Q&A format!

Q: How has Memory Blood progressed in the past week?

For this month, the book is in the QA phase so I’m not looking at it actively. Instead I’m doing things like creating the cover, writing the release information, and deciding what will happen in Memory Blood 2. I’ll return to actively working on Memory Blood in July as I adjust it according to feedback and prepare it for release.

Q: When will the release date and other information be published?

This information will be available during the first week of July. At that time you’ll know the release date, price, cover, and summary.

Q: Any progress on The Orin Chronicles or The Academy Series?

Not just yet. Some new content might still appear at the end of the year, but I wouldn’t expect any of these two series to end before 2015.

Q: Will Memory Blood be exclusive to Kindle?

A: Yes. The current plan is for Memory Blood to be enrolled in KDP Select and made exclusive for 3 months. As a result of this, there will be a free promotion to celebrate the launch of the book. More details will be announced at a later date.

Q: When will all of your books become available on Nook and Kobo?

A: Right now there isn’t much interest in these platforms, but the first books in The Orin Chronicles and The Library Series are available. If interest in these books, and any others currently available, increases then I’ll upload the remaining books. Or, if anyone specifically requests a book to become available by contacting me, I’ll be happy to oblige.

Q: Any secret projects being developed?

Not right now. I’d like to do something extra for Winter in addition to releasing Memory Blood 2, but nothing is in development currently.

Writing Update: February 2014 W3 Edition

I don’t have anymore good hints to give before the Memory Blood World Information reveal at the end of the month, so it’s back to progress reports like this for now.

The Orin Chronicles

Krakken (Volume 8): Writing – 60% complete
Volumes 9-10: Concept Phase
Volumes 11-13: Not in active development

Notes: I haven’t been working on Volume 8 for a while now but I intend to get back to it sooner rather than later. Once the ending is decided the writing should go quickly and if all goes well that might happen by next Friday.

The Academy Series

Second Volume: Not in active development, writing 38% complete

Notes: The progress here has jumped slightly as well. I had an idea for a solution to a problem that’s been troubling me so I wrote it down. I don’t think I’ll get back to actively writing Second Volume for a while now, but I’m glad I was able to see that I almost made a big mistake with one of my ideas. Even though the idea itself was good, I started executing it incorrectly which caused me quite the headache. As of now, a fall release seems very likely though!

Memory Blood

Book One: Concept Phase. Writing – 8% complete

Notes: The time I scheduled for writing hasn’t even come yet and I’m already almost 1/10 of the way through the plot! I’ve been slacking with the concept phase though, but all the things I need to have decided by the end of February will surely be done by then. I’m really happy with the schedule I created for Memory Blood and there should be no doubts about the release of the first book this summer. Because The Orin Chronicles and The Academy Series became difficult to write because they were so spontaneous, I took a great deal of time to plan things out for this series and everything is going as intended. The balancing of planning and spontaneity has me in good spirits whenever I open up the Memory Blood documents I’m working with.

Writing Update: January 2014 W4 Edition

The final progress report of this kind for January has arrived. By now everyone should know what’s coming next week, but if you don’t please read on!

The Orin Chronicles

Krakken (Volume 8): Writing – 57% complete
Volumes 9-10: Concept Phase
Volumes 11-13: Not in active development

Notes: I’ve had a lot of work to do this week so I wasn’t able to write very much. For the remainder of January I have a ton of work to do so the progress may not change too much for next week either, but I’m glad I was able to make decent progress this week and I should be able to do the same next week as well.

The Academy Series

Second Volume: Not in active development, writing 35% complete

Notes: —

2014 Series

Logo: Completed!
Book One: Concept Phase. Writing – 1.5% complete

Notes: With the logo complete, the big reveal of the title of the series is on schedule for next Friday, January 31st. Thanks to the way the logo was created I have a few options of how I can present it and I’m still considering my options as of right now. In concept-forming news, I’m on schedule with my goals for this month and I might be able to talk a little bit about that next week once the series is properly revealed. Then again, not much is going to be said so there are even more reveals planned for next month and beyond. However, I hope what I present one week from today will be sufficient enough for an initial reveal!

Writing Update: January 2014 W3 Edition

For this week, I’ll be following the same format for last week. If you’re a fan of the more detailed Writing Updates there will be plenty of those in the future, but if I wrote one of those every week I’d have to start giving away all the details about what I’m writing and that wouldn’t be any fun at all.

The Orin Chronicles

Krakken (Volume 8): Writing – 47% complete
Volumes 9-10: Concept Phase
Volumes 11-13: Not in active development

Notes: —

The Academy Series

Second Volume: Not in active development, writing 35% complete

Notes: No news on this front just yet.

2014 Series

Logo: Rough sketch approved. Final product in development.
Book One: Concept Phase. Writing – 1.5% complete

Notes: With a decision I made this week, I’d probably say that the structure of the series has now been fully decided. Writing hasn’t really begun just yet so the percentage might not change very much over the coming weeks, but we’re getting closer to the big reveal which is now 2 weeks away!

Writing Update: January 2014 W2 Edition

The Friday Updates for 2014 have officially begun! Even though today is Sunday so it’s about two days late…

As promised, I’d like to provide updates every Friday about the projects I’m working on as well as other things. While a lot of these updates are planned to be reveals for my upcoming series, the name of which will finally be revealed on January 31st, a good number of them will also be Writing Updates. Today I’ll be quickly updating everyone on the status of The Orin Chronicles, The Academy Series,  and my next series.

The Orin Chronicles

Krakken (Volume 8): Writing – 35% complete
Volumes 9-10: Concept Phase
Volumes 11-13: Not in active development

Notes: The name for Volume 8 has been revealed! The writing has been going smoothly and I suspect Volumes 8-10 will be released within the first half of 2014.

The Academy Series

Second Volume: Not in active development, writing 35% complete

Notes: The major delay with Second Volume has been the complicated problems I set up for the characters. In order for me to continue writing I have to come up with the solutions to these problems so I think it’s likely that Second Volume won’t be released until late 2014. I’ve set up a bigger challenge for myself than I had expected to, but I think it’s definitely going to be a rewarding experience.

Book One: Concept Phase. Writing – 1.5% complete

Writing Update: Approaching the End of the Year Edition

Only 10 days until the end of the year and I’ve still only written 25% of The Academy: Second Volume. I intend to have a release by the end of the year, but I think at this point I might do a staggered release with the first few stories debuting before the end of the year and the remaining ones being released each Friday during January until the entire thing is completed.

Naturally  this is hardly where I wanted to be, but I’m still writing so I’m happy with that. The last 1/3 of 2013 has been the start of a new journey for me and so I suppose a drop in productivity was unavoidable. How I miss the days of early 2013 when I was releasing volume after volume of The Orin Chronicles and writing the ending to The Library Series.

2014 is going to be an even better year though. I haven’t outright announced it, but for a while The Orin Chronicles page has had a note that the series will resume in 2014. Right now I think that it will be possible to release 3 volumes sometime next year while also debuting my new series which is still planned to be revealed on January 31st. Right now I think they’ll be released monthly in a row, but what those three months will be is something I haven’t decided on. And it probably doesn’t take much guessing from there to assume I’m also planning to release the final 3 volumes in 2015. Ideally I’d like to finish the series as soon as possible and not keep people waiting but then again I’m not sure anyone’s waiting at the moment.

In about a week I’ll post my full 2013 retrospective and then outline my goals for 2014 which will be structured a little differently than they were for 2013 and 2012. I’m very excited for these posts so please look forward to them.

Writing Update: Mid July 2013 Edition

4 AM. It’s fun to be up this late, but I value waking early in the morning more so these long nights will soon be coming to an end. Before I can go to sleep, I’m going to use this opportunity to finally write another blog post and update everyone on a variety of things.

The Orin Chronicles will have its eighth volume released late this month on Kindle with Volumes 4 and 5 coming on Nook and Kobo very soon.

The Library Series: Recreations will enter the production phase very soon. I’m going to make final decisions on it very soon and then writing will begin when I’m not working on The Orin Chronicles. It won’t be very long, but it will still be releasing late in the summer because The Orin Chronicles has a higher priority. In Library Series news in general, the first book will be debuting on Nook and Kobo this month as well.

Planning and ideas for my 2014 series also continue along nicely. I’ve had lots of healthy debates and questions about my ideas with myself and by the time I start officially writing next year I’m confident it will be in a fantastic condition. I’ve never had a planning phase for a project that has lasted more than a few weeks so I’m really enjoying having many months to think about what I want to do next. I’ll keep mentioning this project throughout the year, but don’t expect any details during 2013. When and how I’m going to introduce readers to this series is a topic for next year, not this one. But as this is my blog it’s important to record my mental state and details about my thinking process.

Also, I’ve been playing a lot of World of Warcraft lately and reading visual novels I’ve already read before so there hasn’t been much progress on my ‘VN Progress List’ but this will almost certainly change towards the end of next month.
