Writing Update: April 2012 W4 Edition

With The Academy: First Volume completed and released it’s time to begin working on Library: Book One. An official announcement will be available May 25th, so I can’t give away too much… but the book will be given a specific title. It’s nothing extraordinary, but the title will be <Title Here> (Library Series: Book One).

I have never published on the Kindle platform before so I have a lot to learn about in order to release on time. This new release of Book One will have some new content and the entire book will be edited once again. With the previous release of Book One and now the release of The Academy, I have a good idea of how to pace myself for this project.

There’s not much more to say now, but there’s a teaser picture after the jump.

Site Updates

The Academy Series page is temporarily unavailable. At midnight tonight, an updated version of the page will return with the download link for The Academy: First Volume. A post will also be automatically published signaling the release.

The Library Series page has been altered. An announcement will be made on May 25th. As a result of the update to this page, Library: Book One will no longer be available in preparation for release on Kindle devices this summer. The supplementary work, Shards of Book One, will also be unavailable during this time and will return in a new form after the Library Series debuts on Kindle.

Writing Update: April 2012 W3 Edition

A new Academy character has been revealed on the Academy Series page!

I cannot believe that it is the third week of April. It isn’t until I go back and read my first entry in April that I realize how far I have come this month. The Academy is now at ~90% completion. Tomorrow is the last day for me to change anything and then, after another full read-through, I will fix only errors. The writing, structuring, editing and such is completely done and all that remains is the final check.

I have checked this work more than any other and, because I am a bit sick, I have seen it from an objective viewpoint without much emotional attachment. It saddens me a little that I won’t be able to appreciate my work fully until a few weeks have passed, but I had so much fun in the writing and editing phase that I am proud to release this work next week. It seems all my colleagues are also ill, so I hope everyone can recover soon. Hopefully in time for the release of The Academy 😉

Now that I’m quickly approaching the final check for The Academy, and the editing and quality check phases are done, I’ve been thinking intensely about my next project. That is the commercial e-book release of Library: Book One. There is a huge mix of anxiety, excitement, happiness, fear, and anticipation that occurs whenever I think about it and it’s going to be something very interesting for me. I’ve read a lot about self-publishing on various e-book platforms so I hope this gives me an advantage and allows for a timely release.

Writing Update: April 2012 W2 Edition

A new Academy character has been revealed on the Academy Series page!

The First Volume is ~78% completed. By now nearly everything that I want in the First Volume is there. Right now I’m working mostly on the structure of the First Volume and its presentation. With 2 weeks left, I’m working on so many different aspects of the First Volume that it’s difficult to report the progress I’ve made.

Next week I’ll have more to share as I make my final decisions and prepare to distribute the work.

Writing Update: April 2012 W1 Edition

A new Academy character has been revealed on the Academy Series page!

April is finally here and I am incredibly happy with my progress this year. The Academy: First Volume is now slightly longer than Library: Book One. I’ve written more in the first 3 months of 2012 than I did in the entirety of 2011!

The Academy: First Volume is now 60% complete. Over the next few weeks I’ll continue to edit the stories and make sure all of the information is presented properly. While there are things that can be discovered in The Academy, I want the stories to be easy to read for those who go from start to finish. If you’d like to analyze The Academy and speculate about it that should also be very possible.

My main goal for The Academy is to create a work that can be enjoyed in many ways. This is the reason for the variety in the stories as well as the existence of an overarching narrative. This is the reason for the way certain elements are structured. This is the reason for the inclusion of Character and World Tips.

When I look at everything that has been done so far, I believe that I am accomplishing my goal and I am very happy. I don’t think everyone can enjoy The Academy but those who can will have a variety of options for how they choose to do so. Even better than that is that while I work on my first commercial release (to be announced at a later date), The Academy Series will remain free!

Personally, I believe everyone who enjoys my content should have some form of access to it. I am very proud of the work I have put into The Academy and I want it to be enjoyed by many people. Of course I have the same goal for my commercial works as well. There’s a lot that can be debated about whether or not a work should be free, but it is my desire to have at least one free series so I am happy to offer that with The Academy.
