Writing Update: Q&A Edition

Did I get sent questions to answer? Not at all.

I just thought a Q&A format would be fun for my next Writing Update. And this is that Writing Update.

Q: How is Library Second Section progressing?

A: The rough draft is coming along well and is on schedule to be finished before June. The release date is still August 2011 as planned.

Emperor (Fragment Alpha-4)

It’s dark. This world is made of nothing but darkness. Someone must rule this darkness. But there is no one here.

“Arise, King of Darkness.” I said. And someone was created, someone to rule over the darkness.

But absolute rule is no fun. So I created some Earth for the King of Darkness. While that land is his, for this dark world belongs solely to him, he could never hold dominion over the Earth itself.

“Arise, King of Earth.” I said.

“Arise, King of Light.”

“Arise, King of Water.”

“Arise, King of Fire.”

“Arise, King of Life.”

And so many beings and elements arose into the world. It’s not so boring anymore. There’s a powerful race of beings that lives here and tries to conquer everything.

They have much territory, so I call them the Earthholders. They can’t really hold anything though as they have no arms, only snake-like bodies.

The Earthholders have conquered much but there is something they can’t conquer. Death. For I am the King of Death and Life. I’ve always been the King of Death in this world, but another used to hold the title of King of Life. He was too kind to the Earthholders though so I made it so I would be the King of Life.

I who hold Life, Death, and Creation am the true ruler of this world. However, the Earthholders speak of more.

Archaeological Discovery (Fragment Alpha-3)

“Director Hawking. We’ve recently recovered another artifact from the Codeyan digsite.” reported an archaeologist.

“More pottery?”

“No, this is something quite exciting. It’s written in an ancient language but in the time that it took to transport here to the Museum, they were able to translate it.”

“And what does it say?”

“It speaks of a legend from this ancient civilization. It tells of three great and powerful objects. Some sort of barrier, key, and door that protect some power that is central to the very universe itself. The legend says that this power allows one to transcend mortal boundaries and become an immortal deity.”

“And what does it say of the location of these three items?”

“Unfortunately, it says nothing. We believe that the rest of this legend might be recorded on other tablets and they are looking for them as we speak. They are also searching the building we found it in which is believed to be a temple of some sort.”

“Your progress is excellent. Please tell my assistant to take care of that tablet on your way out.”

“Yes, Director.”

The archaeologist left the Directors office. Director Hawking went to his desk and took out a notebook. Inside of it were many observations centering around the number three. It was a number that had appeared throughout countless ancient civilizations. Three objects relating to one incredible power. It was a common theme in all of the legends.

But none had ever named the three objects before. For the first time there was a sense of what these three objects were: a barrier, a key, and a door.

Letter (Fragment Alpha-2)

To: Reyskaw Marcosius Velorus

I fear there is a darkness growing in Vyro. Our world is filled mostly with those aligned with fire, so I was easily able to spot it. I don’t think any of the Elemental Lords have spotted it yet, but I fear a war might come if they do.

I would greatly appreciate it if you would come visit me and help me sort this out. I know how much you like warm weather and I believe its the Winter season in Codeya, so that’s just another reason for you to come as soon as possible.

I can only hope that another Dark Dragon Incident isn’t ocurring…

From: Anara Way

Reyskaw filed the letter away with an unpleasant look on his face. A darkness growing on Vyro that sounded similar to what was happening on Codeya. And the thought of another Dark Dragon Incident…. he didn’t want to even imagine that happening.

“Yes.” he thought to himself. “I will go see what’s happening on Vyro.”

Writing Update: Alpha Fragments Edition

I’ve started a new “side project” in addition to the Library series. The Alpha Fragments are a group of stories set inside a multiverse that is simply labeled as Alpha. The plots may be ongoing throughout fragments, some might end suddenly, new ones may begin on a whim… that’s why they are fragments. They haven’t been put together neatly: that’s your job.

If you find enjoyment in connecting the Alpha Fragments, feel free to do so. If you do not, then simply ignore them. Library Second Section is still in development and will still be released on time.

And don’t let the Fragments deceive you either… similarities in names might be just what you think they are, but they might also be completely unrelated. 😉

A Small Storm… (Fragment Alpha-1)

Reyskaw looked up at the sky. Storm clouds were clearly gathering and the sky was getting darker. It had been predicted that it would rain today, so Reyskaw expected this type of sky. However, there was an elemental darkness in the air as well.

A dark force was gathering in power and Reyskaw was trying to tell what that force was. The good thing was the force wasn’t that powerful. The storm was interfering with his ability to detect it, and if a storm that was only just starting could mask that dark power, then it couldn’t be that bad.

But it was growing. Reyskaw knew this. So he left the grassy hill he was standing atop and moved towards a house at the base of the hill. This house was hidden and protected by a great deal of magic, so only Reyskaw could see it.

The source of this power was a minitature crystal obelisk that sat in the center of the small house. Reyskaw walked inside (because of the magical defense, there was no need for a door) and placed both hands on the obelisk.

Writing Update: Spring Edition

Spring is finally here! And along with it, I’ve finally started writing major sections of Library Second Section. The length of the rough draft has now officially surpassed the length of Monument’s final version. My current schedule puts me on track for a Summer 2011 release. The shining sun has greatly improved my spirit.

If only there was a way for me to put more sun into the Library series. The sun has only made a brief appearance so far, right? I wonder if I can find a way to include more sunshine in the series.
