Writing Update: May 2012 W4 Edition

The Library Complex (Library Series: Book One) has been officially announced on the Library Series page!

The book is now in the QA (Quality Assurance) phase where it will be read by other people. I am very excited to receive their feedback and adjust the book where it is necessary. Ideally, everything has been presented perfectly and I won’t have to adjust anything, but that might be a bit too optimistic. Once QA has progressed to a certain point, I will offer a free preview of Book One on the Libary Series page. I am hoping to have the preview ready some time during the month of June.

The title of ‘The Library Complex’ was something that I gave a lot of thought to. It made me question a lot of the book, but ultimately I realized that it cannot be anymore accurate than that. This book tells the story of The Library Complex. While the stories of the characters begin in this book, it is a series and therefore their journey is far from over. The one journey that is definitely completed by the end of the book is the one that makes the title appropriate.

Writing Update: May 2012 W3 Edition

Editing is now 100% complete! About 1500 words have been added to the story of Book One. After having completed a full read-through of Book One, I am very excited to continue working on this project and I look forward to its release this summer. There now remains only 7 days until the official announcement on May 25th.

It seems that I am always doubtful of the quality of my works until I read from beginning to end. I suppose that is because when thinking about the work, I also have many ideas about the future and memories of things I once considered writing. Reading the actual product that everyone else will read is very fun and definitely gives me a boost in confidence. This probably doesn’t sound much different from last week’s post, so I wonder if this can be considered a Writing Update.

Well, to elaborate a bit more, I am now returning to the conceptual stage. I added a tiny bit of new content to Book One during the editing and I am now thinking about ways to further improve the reading experience. The main story from December 2011 has not been altered in terms of plot and that was never my intention. My main concern is enhancing the current experience and not changing it. There’s only one person who has read the previous version of Book One, but I am sure when they read this release they will agree that the story is the same.

Writing Update: May 2012 W2 Edition

This week I was worried about the pace of my editing as I approached 42% completion yesterday. I am very pleased to say that I made great progress today and the editing is now 64% complete. I am hoping to have initial editing completed by next week (which will put me a week ahead of schedule).

In addition to editing, I had some ideas for additional content as well as more thoughts about the future of the series. I found myself very excited with the pacing of Book One and I didn’t want to stop reading at many points. This has boosted my confidence in this work as this is my third time reading it and it is still a great reading experience. I have no doubt in my mind that this book is worth releasing.

Once again, the official announcement for Book One will occur on May 25th.

Writing Update: May 2012 W1 Edition

The editing of Library: Book One is going well. Although I wasn’t able to edit as much as I wanted to this week, it seems I’m already 1/3 of the way through.

There are a lot of mysterious elements in the book and in the first version I included hints to help the reader through the story. These hints were fun to look at when reading the story for a second time and I am having fun reading them.

However, there’s something that I want to include besides hints. I’m working on increasing the amount of speculation done by characters in order to clarify what I am trying to say as an author and what the narrative itself is hinting at. I think these portions of the book will really help the reader to enjoy the story. If you are a reader who is very active and tries to look at all the hints, then that part is being improved and will be even more fun. If you are a reader who wants to read the story without going back to look at certain things, then these sections will help you to understand the story as you move forward. Most of the answers are reached by the book’s conclusion so I think both ways of reading this story are satisfying.

This is similar to my goal for The Academy Series, but the Library Series is a little more specific in its goals and its identity. The Academy Series is very open and loosely structured and the Library Series is more structured do to the fact that it is telling a very specific story as opposed to the many stories of The Academy.

Writing Update: April 2012 W4 Edition

With The Academy: First Volume completed and released it’s time to begin working on Library: Book One. An official announcement will be available May 25th, so I can’t give away too much… but the book will be given a specific title. It’s nothing extraordinary, but the title will be <Title Here> (Library Series: Book One).

I have never published on the Kindle platform before so I have a lot to learn about in order to release on time. This new release of Book One will have some new content and the entire book will be edited once again. With the previous release of Book One and now the release of The Academy, I have a good idea of how to pace myself for this project.

There’s not much more to say now, but there’s a teaser picture after the jump.
